Urban Neighbors
An Urban Neighbor is a Christian individual who commits to living out their faith in Jesus in an urban neighborhood of Minneapolis or St. Paul. The Urban Neighbor Community is a ministry-of-presence model designed for the lives of college students, graduates, and working professionals. See FAQ Sheet, or read the UHW blog.
Living as an Urban Neighbor means living a life where faith and action are inseparable.
The Urban Neighbor Community is focused in the Central and East Phillips Neighborhoods of south Minneapolis, the Jordan and Hawthorne neighborhoods of north Minneapolis, and the Frogtown neighborhood in St. Paul. Urban Neighbors sign a one-year covenant and lease and live in a duplex or an apartment with 2 – 5 other people in a mixed-income housing model operated by Urban Homeworks. Rents vary from $350 – $400/mo, plus utilities (you would know the exact amount of your rent before a lease is signed). See Sample Lease.
Urban Neighbors commit to:
- Serve. Volunteer 2-3 hours weekly with a local ministry or organization that is targeting the needs of the urban community.
- Learn. Join with other Urban Neighbors once a month to learn about life and ministry, justice and mercy in the urban context.
- Live. Gather once a week with housemates to be real and go deeper as you follow Jesus together in the city.
