One of the key components of the Mission of Urban Homeworks is the redemption of one of the most significant assets in our community: real estate. Currently, there is a great need in many of our urban neighborhoods for stabilization. Many homeowners have been forced back into renting and have found themselves stuck with foreclosure on their record. So, in a race to keep people in housing and keep buildings from being razed, Urban Homeworks is making concerted efforts to pull together the funds to acquire and “redeem” those properties.

People Oriented Development (POD) Strategy

Urban Homeworks focuses its development efforts within 11 geographically specific areas. These areas are determined by the existence of other Urban Homeworks rental and/or home ownership development and the presence of condemned, vacant, boarded and foreclosed property. The goal is to reweave community so that the homes are not only dignified places to live, but also that the neighbors would be reconnected and supporting each other.
